PO Box Numbers Is Not Just For Mailing Purposes
The Postal Service (PS) in the UK began using Post box numbers to identify postal parcels. Post numbers or Post Office address is an eight-digit number that identifies the parcel's post office or location. It is usually found on the bottom of the property, or at the top. The location of the post office or postbox is generally identified by a street name, or by the name of a town or district. These numbers in other countries are known as postcodes.
History of Post Box Numbers
The numbers were first introduced in the UK in 1981. At that time, the Post Office started issuing Postage Savings Cards. The cards enabled citizens to purchase postage for a fixed price from the Post Office. A variety of other advantages were realized with the introduction of post box numbers, and additional postal services around the world later took these up.
These box numbers were assigned to each mailbox or street address. The post office would issue a post-office box number to a home or business address based on their street address. Mail was then sent to this address, along with the address label addressed to the recipient. Post office box numbers allowed individuals to keep track of their mails and packages. This made tracking and tracing mails easier.
Types of Post Box Numbers
There are generally two kinds of Postbox numbers; the first is known as sheer numbers. Sheer numbers are typically used to indicate a street address or a PO Box number. The sheer Postbox number is a horizontal alphanumeric code, which has the right-hand edge slanted to the right. Residential PO Box numbers usually have three vertical lines, whereas business PO Box numbers have four horizontal lines. In addition to the right-hand edge, the code may also consist of a numeral, such as a zero, plus an upper or lower case letter.

The sheer Postbox number has two corresponding lines on the address side. These lines are labelled A through L. An additional horizontal line is labelled J. An address sideline is usually not included with the PO Box number on the front of the envelope. When mailing to a residential address, the Post-box number is stamped directly into the envelope.
In contrast, when sending to a business address, it is stamped on the envelope and is sometimes written across the top of the envelope in a corner. However, a Postbox number can be written on the address side of an envelope when mailing to a business. There are many variations to the Post-box number design.
The Post office box number can appear on the left-hand side of any letter, paper, or envelope. For example, a letter from the Post office to a business would have the Post-box number on the left-hand side of the letter, while a private letter would have the Post-box number centred, underneath the upper fold of the paper. If a post office location were to close for the day, such as on Sunday, there would be no Post Office to receive your mail.
A particular type of PO Box is designed for delivering mail overnight to a residential customer. PO Box numbers are typically found on the bottom of all overnight letters. It is important to remember that these are only intended as a temporary solution until the Post Office can establish a regular mailing schedule. For most residential customers, the Post Office will set its daily delivery schedule by one week before the start of the new season. If you are mailing a letter or package to a Post office location that does not follow the regular schedule, a special Post box may be needed to receive your mail.
Box numbers for business:
Suppose you're a small business and would like to provide additional security for your packages and letters. In that case, you may want to contact your local post office to inquire about a certified letter carrier. Post box numbers are always good idea for small businesses. Many small businesses find that their monthly bill is too high to handle with a regular Post Office box. If you can't find a local certified letter carrier in your area, you may be able to arrange to have your packages delivered to your home using a courier service, like UPS or FedEx. This is an excellent way to make sure that your packages get to their proper recipient in a timely fashion.
